Hello mama,

Can we have a quick chat? I see you there, scrolling through your phone late at night. You're looking through hundreds of photos of your kids. And I bet in most of those pictures, one person is missing. You.

I know you were there. You wiped sticky fingers and tied shoelaces. You kissed the hurt knee better. But where are you in all these moments?

If this sounds like you, grab some tea and let's talk. You need to get in front of that camera.

Why Mums Skip the Photos

Let's be real. There are tons of reasons why mums avoid photos:

"I haven't washed my hair in three days."

"I'm still wearing yesterday's clothes."

"I don't like how I look right now."

"I'm always the one taking the photos."

Sound familiar? I get it. I really do. But can I tell you something? Your kids don't see any of that stuff. They just see mum.

Photos Are More Than Just Pictures

While you're busy taking photos of everything your kids do, something big is happening. These photos are becoming your family's story.

And the most important person in that story is missing from half the scenes.

Your kids don't look at a photo and think your hair looks flat. They think, "Look, there's mummy giving me cuddles." They don't see bags under your eyes. They see the mum who was there and loved them.

To them, you're not too this or not enough that. You're just mum.

Those Sweet Moments Don't Last

Childhood goes by fast. One day you're changing diapers and wondering if you'll ever sleep again. The next day you're watching your baby walk into school alone.

Those chubby little hands that reach for you? They're going to grow long and lean. That way they curl up against you for stories? Soon they'll be too big for your lap.

I had a client last year who booked a session. Her youngest had just turned five. She realized she had hardly any photos of herself with her kids. "I was always behind the camera," she said. "I didn't want to be invisible anymore."

During our session, her little boy looked up at her. He said, "Mummy, you're in the photo too." Like it was the best surprise ever. She cried happy tears. Later, she told me that photo became her favorite. Not because everyone looked perfect. But because she was part of the memory.

Your Story Matters Too

Think about your own childhood photos. I bet there are pictures of your mum that you love. Maybe she's making a silly face or caught laughing. Maybe she's just reading to you. You don't look at those photos and judge her outfit. You just see love.

Your kids will look at photos of you the same way. They'll see the mum who was there. Who loved them. Who was part of their story.

And one day, those photos will be how they remember you. Not as the perfect person you think you should be. But as the real mum you are.

Let's Make This Happen

Alright, you're convinced. But now you're thinking, "How do I actually do this?"

First, let go of perfect. That's not real anyway. Your kids won't remember the day your hair looked great. They'll remember the day you built blanket forts.

Book a family session. When you have a pro photographer, you get to be in the moment. You can focus on hugging your babies. Someone else handles the camera stuff. Plus, I'm good at making people laugh and forget they're being photographed.

Use everyday moments. Some of the best photos happen during normal times. Reading bedtime stories. Baking cookies. Having a cuddle on the couch Sunday morning.

Hand over your phone. Ask your partner or friend to take some photos. Yes, they might be wonky. But they'll be real.

Your Kids Just Want You

Your children think you're perfect as you are. They don't need you to be camera ready. They just need you there.

So next time someone pulls out a camera, don't hide. Don't worry about your hair or outfit. Just get in the frame. Be part of the story.

Twenty years from now, your kids will show these photos to their children. They won't remember you having a bad hair day. They'll just remember you were there, loving them.

And that's exactly what they need to see.

Still Have Questions?

What if I hate being photographed? You're not alone. Most of my clients feel this way at first. My job is to make you comfortable and relaxed. We'll start slow and focus on natural moments with your kids. No awkward poses.

Can I bring my toddler's favorite stuffed animal? Yes. Anything that makes your little ones happy makes my job easier. Some of my favorite shots include beloved comfort items.

Do I need to dress up? Nope. Just wear something you feel good in. I'll send you a guide with ideas. The goal is for you to look like you.

How long does a session take? Family sessions usually run about an hour. But we go with the flow. If the kids are having fun, we might go longer. If someone's having a meltdown, we can wrap up early. No stress.
